Marilyn Lorenz, of National City, MI and Algonac, MI passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of November 29, 2022. Marilyn was a resident at the Iosco County Medical Center Memory Unit at the time of her passing, where she spent the final 6 years of her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born October 2, 1932, in Detroit, MI. She married John F. “Jack” Lorenz, Jr. on November 29, 1969. Together they raised their three sons in Algonac, and instilled in them their shared values of love, respect, hard work, and service to others. Jack and Marilyn later retired to their home “up north” in National City in 1992.

Marilyn was a teacher, life-long learner, and a huge supporter of education; she took great pleasure in nurturing this same love of learning in her children. Marilyn also loved music, and very much enjoyed her time playing the organ and singing in the church choir. In retirement, she enjoyed keeping in touch with family and her pen pals, and the peacefulness of the woods on her daily walks while occasionally catching glimpses of various birds and deer. Old State Road was her little slice of heaven in the woods.

Marilyn is survived by her 3 sons Michael (Rhonda), Joseph (Mary), and Thomas, and by her 4 grandsons Daniel, Nicholas (their mother, Virginia), Jeffrey, and Steven.

Services for Marilyn will take place in two different communities. A visitation service will take place on Saturday December 3rd, 2022 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, MI.

A second visitation will take place on Sunday December 4th, 2022 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Gilberts Funeral Home in Algonac, MI. located at 1422 Michigan St.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday December 6th, 2022 at 11:00am (10:30 in state) at St. Catherine’s Church, 1103 Washington St. Algonac, MI.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or the Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas, MI.
