William Alexander Stringer

William Alexander “Tack” Stringer 95 of Algonac, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020 at Marwood Nursing and Rehab in Port Huron.

Bill was born in Algonac, on January 6, 1925, to the late Hugh and Anna Stringer.  He married Joan Harsen Ouimet on June 18, 1946 after he returned from his service on the destroyer USS English in World War II.

Bill enjoyed doing things for the community and youth of Algonac.  He built the William A. Stringer Little League Field, was an Algonac Lions club member for many, many years and worked on building the Algonac Lions Pool. Bill was Pickerel Tournament Chairman for many years.   He umpired the Algonac High School baseball games and also refereed some Hockey.  He coached an Algonac High School Football team and the Algonac High School Hockey Team for a few years. Bill also ran the clock at the Truman Pippel Football Field when the high school played their football games.  Bill shot pool for the Fred Quandt VFW post 3901 in Algonac.  He retired from Algonac Community Schools as Building and Grounds Administrator.  Bill and Joan retired and moved to Lewiston, Michigan and lived there for many years.  He also worked at Garland Golf Course and golfed and shot pool for Tally’s Log Cabin Bar for many years in Lewiston   Bill also enjoyed snowmobiling, a good camp fire and the fun times with his children,  grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed.

Bill is survived by his daughter; Patricia (Russell) Webster, Algonac; his son William A. Jr. (George Anne) Stringer of Joplin, Missouri; his grandsons; Russell Jr. (Jamie) Webster, Marine City; Chad (Kourtney) Webster, Grand Ledge; John Evanoff, Capac;  Ron Hill;  and his granddaughters Rebecca(Jack) Burk, Avoca; Beverly Nelson,Myrtle Beach, South Carolina;  his great grandkids, Brandon, Jacob, Zachary, Melanie, Alan, Ali, Lucas, Calleigh and Max.  He was preceded in death by his wife Joan of 72 yrs; parents;  brothers Lyle, Milt, Hugh, Nelson and sisters Catherine, Helen and Frances;  granddaughter, Bobbie-jo.

The family would like to extend sincerest thanks to the kind and caring staff on Draper’s Lane for taking good care of Bill.  We would also like to thank McLaren Hospice for the special care of Bill and Joan Stringer.
